Chilia Veche is located in the heart of the Danube Delta, where the pleasant weather and the amazing biodiversity make for a must-see destination for each tourist.
Due to its geographical position, Chilia Veche is blessed with high temperatures throughout the year. Here the sun shines, on average, 2500 hours each year, so it’s no surprise that the summers are often hot and dry, with very little rainfall, and the winters are mild, with rarely any snow. The engulfing body of water, interrupted by sandy islands of marine fields and enriched with numerous types of vegetation makes up a specific lagoon area, with a temperate continental climate. The proximity to the sea offers obvious sea influences. It can be said that the weather in Chilia Veche is always right for a holiday!
In winter, the average temperature reaches around -10 ℃, but there were also values of -25 ℃. Extreme temperatures occur, usually, in one of the three cold periods (each lasting between 5 and 10 days). In the second decade of January, in a cycle of 8-10 years, the temperatures are so low that the water freezes and it forms a natural ice bridge over the Danube.
The month of May traditionally represents the beginning of summer in the Danube Delta. This season brings warm temperatures of up to 50 ℃ at ground level; generally, however, the weather in Chilia Veche is moderate and the rainfall gives way to drought, as spring turns into summer. Sometimes and for short periods of time dry storms appear and raise clouds of dust and sand from the Delta’s levees.
If you’re a nature-loving type of tourist, the perfect season to visit Danube Delta is when the weather gets warm – meaning, from May. Around Chilia Veche there are approximately 95 days of calm each year; this means that the weather in Chilia Veche is suitable for a relaxing holiday or a fishing party (in areas in wich fishing is allowed) almost all summer.
